GRANT YOUNG FROM GLASGOW AND LOCHORE SENTENCED FOR VIOLENT ATTACKS ON WOMEN

A woman residing in Lochore was subjected to a brutal assault within her own home by a man she had recently met online, marking a disturbing escalation in his pattern of violence. The attacker, identified as Grant Young, has a long-standing and troubling history of violent behavior directed towards partners, which has now culminated in a serious criminal conviction.

Grant Young, who is 40 years old and hails from Coalburn, Lanarkshire, appeared before Dunfermline Sheriff Court on his birthday to face charges related to a violent incident that took place on February 2, 2023, in Lochore. The court heard that Young had engaged in a brief online relationship with the victim, communicating with her for two days prior to the assault. Despite the short duration of their contact, Young traveled to her residence and launched a violent attack.

According to court records, Young entered the woman's home uninvited and assaulted her by striking her on the head and repeatedly punching her, causing injuries. The assault was classified as domestically aggravated, highlighting the abusive nature of the incident within a domestic setting. Sheriff Krista Johnston condemned Young’s actions, stating, “You assaulted a lady and inflicted injuries on her. You went to her house after speaking to her online for two days. In her own home, you assaulted her. She was alone and vulnerable because she had been drinking. She was assaulted within her own living room.”

Sheriff Johnston also emphasized Young’s extensive history of violence, noting, “You have an appalling record with persistent cases of violence, especially against partners. You are 40 today, and it is hoped that at some point you will learn to behave appropriately.”

In addition to the assault conviction, Young faced further sentencing for breaching a community payback order. This breach occurred on October 23, 2023, in the Falkirk area, where he sent derogatory voice messages to his former partner, violating the conditions of his previous sentence.

As a result of these offenses, Grant Young was sentenced to a total of 16 months in prison. Furthermore, he was issued a non-harassment order that will remain in effect for ten years, aimed at protecting his former partner from further contact or intimidation. The court’s decision underscores the seriousness of his violent conduct and the ongoing threat he poses to those around him.
