GRAHAM REDFEARN ON THE RUN FROM ANGLESEY AND WEM: SHOCKING SEX OFFENDER CASES AND ARRESTS

In a series of disturbing events spanning several years, Graham Redfearn, a known sex offender with connections to Anglesey and Wem, has been at the center of multiple criminal cases involving sexual misconduct and violations of court orders. His criminal history and recent activities have raised serious concerns about public safety and the effectiveness of supervision measures.

Back in September 2013, Redfearn, who was then 41 years old and residing without a fixed address, faced severe legal repercussions after admitting to multiple charges related to sexual activities with animals, specifically a horse named Ambrose and dogs. He also confessed to possessing extreme pornographic images. His actions came to light after police investigation linked him to a caravan situated near Wem, where he was living on a small holding. The landlady of the property reported a burglary, prompting police to attend the scene. Upon arrival, officers found Redfearn and subsequently searched his caravan, uncovering mobile phones containing graphic and pornographic material.

Further examination revealed that Redfearn had filmed his abuse of the horse Ambrose, with some footage accompanied by commentary. When questioned, he claimed that his actions were merely experiments, but the court found that his motives were rooted in personal gratification rather than experimentation. The court also discovered that, on the eve of his sentencing, Redfearn had posted an advertisement on Facebook seeking work as a groom or stablehand, despite being aware of his upcoming court appearance. This indicated a continued interest in animals and a disregard for legal restrictions.

During the sentencing at Shrewsbury Crown Court, Judge Peter Barrie imposed a series of stringent orders on Redfearn. He was issued a Sexual Offenders Prevention Order for ten years, a Community Supervision Order for three years, and was mandated to participate in a Community Sex Offending Programme. The judge also prohibited him from owning or keeping animals and restricted his internet access. Additionally, if he was offered employment involving animals within the next five years, he was required to disclose his criminal history to his employer. Prosecutor Mr. Phillip Beardwell highlighted that Redfearn’s background included a prior conviction in 1998 for gross indecency with a five-year-old child, which led to his placement on the Sexual Offenders Register.

In a separate but related case from December 2007, Redfearn’s history of sexual offenses was further scrutinized. At that time, he was 35 years old and had been living in Holyhead. He was arrested after his photograph was published in the Daily Post, which led to a member of the public on Anglesey recognizing him and alerting authorities. Redfearn, who had previously been convicted of gross indecency with a young child, was subject to a 20-year long sexual offences prevention order that barred him from working with children, allowing children into his home, or communicating with minors. Despite these restrictions, he had breached the order multiple times, including befriending teenage girls in Gwynedd and attempting to develop relationships with them for sexual purposes.

His breaches culminated in his arrest and subsequent guilty plea to violating the court-imposed restrictions. Caernarfon Crown Court sentenced him to 33 months in prison, with Judge Merfyn Hughes QC expressing grave concern over his pattern of behavior and lack of insight into the risks he posed to young girls. The judge emphasized that unless he was prevented, Redfearn would likely continue to seek out vulnerable minors for sexual exploitation.

Further complicating his case, Redfearn had worked at a children’s play centre called Puffin Billy’s on Anglesey, a facility attended by children under social care. Although the centre had closed years earlier, the fact that someone with his criminal background might have been employed there was deemed highly troubling by social services officials. The concern was that Redfearn’s proximity to children, even if no harm was proven during his employment, posed a significant risk.

Most recently, Redfearn’s attempts to evade justice were exposed when he went on the run after breaching his sexual offences prevention order. His photograph was published in the Daily Post, and a vigilant member of the public on Anglesey recognized him. The individual’s identification led to his arrest near Mona on a Sunday night. During his court appearance, he pleaded guilty to breaching the order, and authorities confirmed that he was facing a potential jail sentence.

Throughout these incidents, Redfearn’s criminal activities and repeated violations of court orders have underscored the ongoing threat he poses. His case continues to attract public and legal scrutiny, highlighting the importance of vigilant monitoring and strict enforcement of restrictions placed on sex offenders, especially those with a history of abusing animals and minors. The community remains watchful as authorities work to ensure that Redfearn remains in custody and that measures are in place to prevent further offenses.
