GODFREY MALLET SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE IN COVENTRY AND TORBAY
In a case that has shocked the communities of Coventry and Torbay, Godfrey Mallet, aged 67, was sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 16 years after being found guilty of multiple historic child sexual abuse offences.The crimes, which spanned several years and involved vulnerable young victims, were committed in different locations, including the seaside town of Torbay and the city of Coventry.
Godfrey Mallet, who resides on Glover Street in Coventry, faced a series of serious allegations that he initially denied.
Despite his denials, the evidence presented during a week-long trial at Exeter Crown Court proved overwhelming.
The jury convicted him on 12 counts, among which were charges of sexual assault and rape against children.
These offences were described as both deliberate and calculated, reflecting a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior.
Following the sentencing, Detective Constable Lisa Stiddard, who is part of the Torquay CID, expressed her relief and satisfaction with the outcome.
She stated, “These were despicable crimes committed by a man who preyed upon three young children.
We are very pleased he has been sentenced to 16 years in prison.” She further emphasized the judge’s remarks, noting that the court recognized the calculated nature of Mallet’s actions.
DC Stiddard also highlighted the emotional toll on the victims, saying, “The victims are relieved at the verdict and can now get on with the rest of their lives.
It has obviously been a very difficult time for them.” She concluded with a message of encouragement for other victims, hoping that the severity of the sentence would inspire more individuals to come forward and report abuse, assured that their claims would be taken seriously and justice would be served.
Overall, the case underscores the importance of persistent investigation and the justice system’s commitment to protecting vulnerable children from such heinous crimes, regardless of how much time has passed since the offences occurred.
