NEWPORT MAN JAILED FOR CAMPAIGN OF DOMESTIC ABUSE AND THREATS

A THUG who threatened his ex-girlfriend she would find her father “floating in the canal” has been jailed for a campaign of domestic abuse against her.Glenn Morgan also gave her two black eyes after hurling a mobile phone at her face and later throwing her headfirst out of his house.

That second assault on Christmas Day saw his victim covered in blood after causing a gash and leaving her with a scar above her left eyebrow.

The 43-year-old defendant from Newport appeared at Cardiff Crown Court after he admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assault by beating and an offence under the Malicious Communications Act.

The offences occurred between 2012 and 2024, prosecutor Bethan Evans said.

Morgan had 11 previous convictions for 28 offences.

His record includes offences of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, battery, affray and breach of a restraining order.

Some of his previous convictions are related to domestic violence.

Sol Hartley representing him asked for his client to be given the appropriate credit for his guilty pleas.

The court heard how Morgan was mourning the recent death of his mother and that her funeral is on Friday.

The judge, Recorder Dyfed Llion Thomas, told the defendant: “You used threatening and offensive language during a number of phone calls.

“You went on to say I'll come and sleep up in your house and your dad will get found floating in the canal.

“Your threats went beyond just threats to her – they were very unpleasant and very threatening.” The judge said the first assault involving the mobile phone happened when Morgan was in a jealous rage after he saw his then partner had liked a Facebook photograph of a friend of hers.

Of the second attack on Christmas Day 2013, he told the defendant: “You picked her up off her feet from behind and threw her out of the door.

She landed headfirst on the concrete floor.

“You may be shocked with the amount of blood but that really was a deliberate assault and a deliberate assault against a woman who you were in relationship with.” He called the violent incidents “as cruel as they were cowardly”.

Morgan, of Ringwood Hill, Newport was jailed for 20 months and told he would serve 40 per cent of that sentence before being released on licence.

The defendant was made the subject of a five-year restraining order not to contact the woman.
