PERTH CARE WORKER WARNED FOR RESTRAINING AND VERBALLY ABUSING CHILD
A childcare worker from Perth has been issued a formal warning by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) after an investigation found he physically restrained a young child without any justification. The report revealed that Glenn Jackson restrained a vulnerable young person while employed by Radical Services Ltd, and refused to release him despite a colleague’s request.
The SSSC determined that Jackson's actions were unwarranted and could have caused both emotional and physical harm to the child.
During the incident, Jackson also shouted at the child, using language described as derogatory and inappropriate.
He accused the child, identified as AA, of taking his phone and refused to return it, even when the child was anxious about an undisclosed matter.
Jackson reportedly told AA, 'you always think you’re a hard man so it’s time to start acting like one,' or similar words.
The regulator concluded that Jackson’s behavior was unacceptable and posed a risk of further harm.
Consequently, the SSSC imposed a 24-month warning on his registration and mandated that he complete training on de-escalation, child protection, and positive behavior management within two months.
The investigation was based on evidence from May 2021 and emphasized that such misconduct undermines the trust and safety of vulnerable children.
Radical Services Ltd was not contactable for comment.
The article highlights concerns about misconduct in social care and the importance of maintaining professional standards in the support of vulnerable young people.
