WIGAN MAN JAILED FOR HISTORIC SEX OFFENCES
Glen Stone, a 64-year-old man from Wigan, has received a prison sentence after being found guilty of historic sexual offences against two young girls. The charges included three counts of indecent assault committed during the 1970s and 1980s, as determined in a trial held earlier this year.
During proceedings, one of the victims read a statement describing her long-standing struggle with her secret and her inability to discuss it for many years.
She remarked, "I wish I had told someone all of this years ago.
I have to remind myself that I was a child - and he took an element of my childhood away from me." The other woman also conveyed that the abuse had devastated her life and taken away a significant part of her childhood.
The women revealed that the abusive experiences had damaged their self-esteem, induced anxiety, and affected their intimate relationships.
Although Stone had previous convictions, there have been no similar allegations made before these recent charges.
His lawyer, Kevin Liston, described him as being in poor health and highlighted character references that depicted him as a devoted father, grandfather, and husband.
Judge Neil Usher emphasized the gravity and repeated nature of the offences and sentenced Stone to four years in prison.
Additionally, he ordered Stone to register as a sex offender indefinitely.
Detective Constable Jenna Boyer praised the victims for their bravery and said, "Their strength in aiding us with this investigation has ensured that a dangerous man is now behind bars and away from children.
I hope today’s sentence offers some solace to his victims, knowing he has been held accountable for his crimes."
