GLEN JONES FROM MAIDSTONE AND LONDON BACK BEHIND BARS FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES

In a disturbing development, Glen Jones, a man with a long history of sexual offenses against minors, has been re-incarcerated following his latest illegal activities involving indecent images of children. Jones, who has connections to Maidstone and London, was found to be engaging in illicit online behavior while residing at a probation hostel in York, prompting swift action from law enforcement authorities.

Jones, aged 42, was under strict supervision due to his status as a convicted child sex offender. He was on life parole, a measure designed to restrict his activities and protect the public from potential harm. Despite these restrictions, monitoring software installed by North Yorkshire Police on his mobile device detected that he was viewing and downloading indecent images of young boys aged between two and 12. This software, which had been installed with Jones's consent in April 2018, was part of ongoing efforts to monitor his online activity.

According to prosecutors, the software alerted officers when Jones accessed content that was traced back to YouTube in the early hours of April 25. The images he viewed and downloaded were deemed highly inappropriate and illegal. Following this discovery, Jones was promptly arrested and taken into custody. His arrest marked a significant breach of the conditions of his parole, which had been in effect since October 2017. As a result, he was immediately recalled to prison to serve the remainder of his sentence.

Jones's criminal history is extensive and deeply troubling. In 2007, he was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison after being convicted of raping an 11-year-old boy and sexually assaulting three other young boys. During that trial, it was revealed that he possessed approximately 10,000 indecent images of children, further illustrating the severity of his offenses. His previous sentence was handed down at Maidstone Crown Court, where he was also found guilty of multiple sexual offenses against minors.

His legal team, led by solicitor advocate Nicholas Hammond, indicated that it might take a considerable amount of time before the Parole Board considers him safe for release again. The judge overseeing his latest case, Judge Peter Kelson QC, expressed his concern about Jones's ongoing danger to children. He explicitly stated, “In my view, you clearly remain dangerous, a danger to children. I would like them (the parole board members) to have these sentencing remarks.”

During the proceedings, Jones admitted to downloading indecent images of children, which resulted in a four-month jail sentence. However, this sentence is only part of his ongoing punishment, as he continues to serve an indefinite sentence for public protection imposed in 2007. That sentence was the result of 20 sexual offenses, including rape, committed against young boys.

Further legal restrictions include a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which limits Jones’s internet usage and prevents him from deleting his browsing history. Despite this, he had engaged in online chats with at least one other man about perverted images. When questioned by police, Jones claimed he had deleted his YouTube history, but officers clarified that because it was not browser history, this did not breach the SHPO. Nonetheless, a new condition was added to prevent him from deleting any record of his online activities.

Judge Kelson emphasized the ongoing risk Jones poses, stating that his actions and history demonstrate a continued threat to children. The court’s remarks serve as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by individuals like Jones, who have a long-standing pattern of sexual offenses against minors and continue to pose a significant risk to society.
