GATESHEAD MAN DODGES JAIL AFTER VICIOUS ATTACK ON EX-PARTNER
A violent individual named Glen Irwin from Gateshead assaulted his former partner in a drunken rage, leaving her bruised and bloodied.
According to court reports, Irwin had been in a relationship with the woman for around five years, but they separated in June last year due to his violent behavior abroad on holiday.
The incident in November occurred when the woman visited him at his father's home, where he was staying; she found him intoxicated.
During the visit, Irwin demanded to see her phone and, when she tried to retrieve it, he punched her repeatedly and kicked her in the head and stomach, causing extensive injuries including bruising to her forehead, eyes, arm, and hand.
She described her fear during the attack, saying, 'I've locked myself in the house since the incident.
I'm scared of him.
He might turn up intoxicated.' She also reported nightmares and resorting to anti-depressants, feeling now that she may need to move.
Irwin pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and was sentenced to 19 months suspended for two years, with 150 hours of unpaid work and a £600 fine.
His solicitor stated he was remorseful and was working to address his alcohol addiction, living with his parents, and demonstrating full responsibility for his actions.
