GLEN ALLSOPP FROM DYMOCK AND LEDBURY JAILED FOR HORRIFIC SEXUAL OFFENSES IN GLOUCESTERSHIRE

In a disturbing case that has shocked the communities of Dymock and Ledbury, teenager Glen Allsopp has been sentenced to two years in prison after admitting to multiple serious sexual offenses involving young girls. The crimes took place over a span of several years, with Allsopp, who was living in Dymock at the time, attacking two young victims in their sleep between 2009 and 2012.

According to court proceedings, the first victim, who was approximately 12 years old at the time, woke up to find Allsopp on top of her, kissing her on the cheek. She was reportedly confused and frightened, unable to comprehend what was happening. She recalled being tearful and upset, yet Allsopp persisted in his actions. After what she described as five to ten minutes, he eventually crawled out of her room. Despite the distress, she did not disclose the incident to anyone at the time.

Within days, a similar incident occurred. The girl was lying on her side when Allsopp entered her room and climbed into her bed. She tried to resist and get him off, but he was persistent and succeeded in his assault, which she believed lasted around 40 minutes. When she later confided in an adult, Allsopp responded by hitting her on the arm, and the police were not called at that time. It was only years later that another girl, then aged 14, disclosed to a teacher that she had been sexually assaulted by Allsopp while she was staying at his home in Gloucester.

The police investigation revealed that Allsopp, who was residing in Bayfield Gardens, Dymock, had visited graphic websites on his phone, indicating a concerning pattern of behavior. During his arrest, authorities found evidence of his online activity. His defense lawyer, Jeremy Barton, highlighted concerns about Allsopp’s mental health, noting that in October of the same year, he was assessed to have a mental age of just 12, which was likely lower at the time of the offenses. Barton explained that Allsopp had been exposed to pornography in his household, which he viewed as a form of experimentation, and that he did not fully grasp the wrongfulness of his actions at the time.

Judge William Hart acknowledged Allsopp’s special educational needs, including a reading age of nine and an IQ of 76. Nonetheless, the judge emphasized that by the time of his last attack, Allsopp must have been aware of the severity of his conduct. Consequently, he ordered Allsopp to register as a sex offender for ten years and imposed a sexual offenders’ prevention order to restrict his future behavior.

In a separate case from August 2014, the same individual, then aged 18 and now residing in Ledbury, pleaded guilty to two counts of raping a girl under 13 in Dymock, with the offenses occurring between July 22, 2009, and August 31, 2010, when the girl was eleven and twelve years old. He also admitted to sexually assaulting another girl through digital penetration between November 10, 2011, and November 12, 2012. A fourth charge of rape was not proceeded with, as the Crown accepted that the defendant was reckless regarding consent and unaware of the victim’s distress.

Prosecutor Kanaan Siva stated that both victims’ privacy had been invaded, and the remaining charge was likely to be left on the court file. Judge Recorder Nicholas Atkinson remarked that offenses of this nature typically result in custodial sentences, but given the defendant’s young age at the time of the crimes, some leniency was considered. The judge ordered Allsopp to sign the Sex Offenders Register immediately and scheduled further assessments, including probation and psychiatric reports, before delivering a final sentence on November 7. Until then, Allsopp remains on conditional bail, awaiting his fate.
