PERTH MAN JAILED FOR DANGEROUS DOG ATTACK AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
A sheriff has ordered the destruction of a Perth family’s dog after it attacked a woman walking past their home.CCTV footage showed Jasper, a border-terrier cross, rushing towards the victim and biting her through her jeans into her leg.
The woman, walking with her 14-year-old daughter, was pulled to the ground during the attack.
Giorgios Virtopeanu, who was responsible for looking after the dog, was seen on camera intervening and kicking Jasper away.
The 24-year-old appeared at Perth Sheriff Court and admitted to allowing the dog to be dangerously out of control outside his residence in May Place on February 19 this year.
He was also involved in a fight the following day at the same property, biting his father-in-law, and admitted to other domestic charges including assault and threatening behavior.
Additionally, he assaulted a woman who witnessed the attack, knocking her unconscious.
Prosecutor Elizabeth Hodgson described how the dog bit through the woman’s clothing, requiring 12 stitches and tetanus injections.
The court played footage of the attack, and Virtopeanu was seen on CCTV kicking the dog away.
The dog has been held in kennels since the incident.
The court also heard that Virtopeanu attacked his stepfather during the disturbances, had previously assaulted his ex-girlfriend, and behaved threateningly towards her.
The court acknowledged his struggles with substance abuse but also noted his remorse.
Sheriff Nigel Cooke ordered Virtopeanu to pay £450 in compensation to the victim, carry out 180 hours of unpaid work, and stay away from his ex-girlfriend for a year under a non-harassment order.
The dog was ordered to be destroyed due to the risk it posed to the public.
Virtopeanu plans to return to construction work and is considering relocating.
