BIRMINGHAM MAN JAILED FOR STREET ATTACK ON EX-GIRLFRIEND
Germaine Goddard has been sentenced to a five-year prison term following a brutal assault on his former partner, whom he left in unconsciousness after a violent street attack.The incident took place on Boxing Day last year on Tyburn Road in Erdington, where Goddard, who has a record of domestic violence, struck his 23-year-old girlfriend in the face, causing injuries including a fractured cheekbone and damaged eye socket.
His criminal history includes previous domestic violence offenses, such as kicking his pregnant partner to induce a miscarriage and physically assaulting her.
After the attack, a taxi driver passing by called emergency services when the woman was discovered unconscious in the street.
Initially, Goddard fled the scene but was later identified through a taxi used during the assault, leading police to arrest him at a Birmingham Travelodge the following day.
He pleaded guilty to causing injury and assault at Birmingham Crown Court, where it was highlighted that this was his third conviction related to serious violence.
Detective Constable Rob Gough commented that Goddard is "an aggressive, dangerous man" who employed "gross levels of violence" in both his attacks, and that he has been appropriately removed from society for several years.
