GERHARD JONES FROM NEWPORT SENTENCED FOR DEPICTING CHILD INDECENT IMAGES
In a serious case that has shocked the Newport community, Gerhard Jones, a 60-year-old resident of Court Crescent, Bassaleg, was formally sentenced to prison after a disturbing discovery of indecent images involving children on his personal computer.
The case came to light following an investigation that began in November 2009, when a family member of Jones found a CD containing illicit images at his residence and promptly reported the matter to authorities.
Subsequent police searches of Jones's home uncovered a staggering total of 15,343 indecent images stored across various devices, including hard drives and CDs.
Among these, 19 images were classified as level five, indicating the most severe category of child exploitation material.
Additionally, 1,511 images fell into level four, with the remaining images spread across levels one to three.
The authorities also recovered three videos containing level four content, further emphasizing the severity of the case.
