MAN WAS 'UNHEALTHILY OBSESSED' WITH WOMAN HE MET THROUGH ONLINE DATING
A man was “unhealthily obsessed” with his ex-partner and “bombarded” her with messages after she ended their three-month relationship.Gerard Fearon, 43, also turned up in the woman’s garden and sent her unwanted flowers, Workington Magistrates’ Court heard.
The woman made a statement to police on June 4, describing how she had ended the relationship due to Fearon’s drink and occasional drugs use.
He then appeared at her house, messaging and calling her repeatedly, despite her blocking him on social media.
Fearon even appeared in her garden, shouting and claiming to be beaten up, and said he was “heartbroken” and wanted to rekindle the relationship.
The victim described him as making her feel scared and anxious, especially since flowers arrived at her address with a note saying, “Thank you.
I love you,” despite her telling him not to send flowers.
Fearon admitted to police that he took the breakup poorly, and sent flowers and messages, but claimed he didn’t intend to harass her.
He also stated they met on a dating site four months prior and that he wasn’t a bad person, calling the matter “blown out of proportion.” Fearon pleaded guilty to harassment without violence and was sentenced to a 12-month community order, including 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days and a 60-day alcohol abstinence monitoring programme.
He was also given a restraining order banning contact with the victim and going to her address, and ordered to pay costs and surcharge.
