DARLINGTON WOMAN SLAPPED AND STAMPED ON EX'S FEET IN COURT
A woman who physically assaulted her ex-partner by slapping and stomping on his feet as he attempted to leave their home has appeared in court.Geraldine Weighell, of Hargreave Terrace, Darlington, reacted with anger when the man was putting on his shoes to leave the residence while two social workers were present in their Darlington house.
The 62-year-old, who sustained a head injury over ten years ago, tried to follow the man down the street, pleading for him to stay, the Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court was told.
Prosecutor Heather Blair indicated that the man did not support prosecuting his former partner, but testimony from the social workers was used as evidence.
"The defendant’s conduct began to escalate," she explained.
"When he attempted to put his shoes on, she grabbed his hand tightly, then slapped him and stamped on his feet.
When he finally managed to leave the house, she followed him outside, shouting at him." The court was also informed that Weighell had a previous conviction for assaulting the same man.
She admitted to assault causing actual bodily harm after the incident on April 24.
Defense lawyer Nick Woodhouse stated that her behaviour only escalated after she suffered her head injury in 2013 and highlighted that they had been together for around two decades.
He added, "Her alcohol misuse has contributed to her actions that have brought her here.
This incident occurred four months ago, and there has been no recurrence since." Magistrate Professor Ian Neal, chair of the court, imposed a £200 fine and directed her to pay £165 towards court costs.
He commented, "Circumstances have changed.
We are fairly confident she will not repeat this behaviour.
The most appropriate punishment today is a financial penalty."
