GEORGE STEWART FROM PERTH INVOLVED IN DOMESTIC VIOLENCE INCIDENT NEAR COUPAR ANGUS
In a troubling case that has drawn attention to domestic violence issues in the Perth area, George Stewart was involved in an incident that has left many concerned about the safety of vulnerable individuals. The incident occurred in Perth, where Stewart, who was under a court-mandated restriction to remain at home between 7pm and 7am following an earlier arrest involving a knife in Coupar Angus, was involved in a violent altercation with his pregnant partner.According to court records, the confrontation was triggered after Stewart’s partner threatened to remove his electronic monitoring device, which was part of his court conditions. The situation escalated quickly, with Stewart reportedly becoming aggressive and physically assaulting his partner. During the altercation, Stewart pushed his pregnant girlfriend, who was approximately eight and a half months pregnant at the time, causing her to fall backwards onto a bed. Witnesses described how Stewart then stepped towards her with both hands, pushing into her stomach, which caused her to shout out in pain, exclaiming, “You’ve hurt my stomach.”
In response to the incident, the police were called to the scene. Officers arrived promptly and took Stewart into custody. During police questioning, Stewart admitted to pushing his partner, explaining that his actions were a reaction to her threat to disable his electronic monitoring device. The pregnant woman was subsequently taken to Ninewells Hospital for medical assessment, although it was reported that she did not sustain any physical injuries. However, the incident was significant because it involved a pregnant woman, raising concerns about the safety of both mother and unborn child.
Stewart, who resides on Stormont Street in Perth, pleaded guilty to the charge of assaulting his partner at their residence on March 17 of the current year. His defense solicitor highlighted that Stewart was actively seeking employment, possibly indicating efforts to improve his circumstances. The court also took into account Stewart’s prior convictions, which included a six-month Restriction of Liberty order and a £1,000 compensation payment to a police officer for racial abuse. These previous convictions painted a picture of a man with a history of legal issues.
Sheriff Francis Gill decided to defer Stewart’s sentencing until May 13, allowing for further consideration of the case. The incident has sparked discussions about domestic violence, especially involving pregnant women, and the importance of monitoring and intervention to prevent such occurrences in the future.
