GILLINGHAM MAN JAILED FOR DEPRAVED CHILD RAPE
A 21-year-old man named George Payne-Woodham has been sentenced to a lengthy jail term after being convicted of multiple sexual offences including rape, assault by penetration, sexual assault, and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. The case was brought to light after a young girl, who had been distressed and had confided in her teacher following an assembly on abuse, revealed her ordeal.
Police investigations uncovered that Payne-Woodham had subjected the girl to depraved acts which devastated her life.
The victim described feeling overwhelmed with sadness and contemplating suicide, while her mother and father reported she now suffers from depression and self-loathing, describing her as having become the opposite of her former confident self.
The court was also informed of Payne-Woodham’s internet searches on sites such as Pornhub, where he looked up explicit content involving young girls.
During the trial, Payne-Woodham denied the accusations, but jurors dismissed his claims and convicted him of all charges.
The judge condemned Payne-Woodham for treating his victim as his 'sexual plaything' and for causing her 'utter and irretrievable' suffering, describing her disclosure as revealing 'truly horrifying offending.' He was sentenced to 16 years under a 20-year extended sentence, requiring him to serve at least two-thirds before applying for parole, and will be subject to a 25-year sexual harm prevention order and indefinite registration on the sex offender register.
Additionally, Payne-Woodham faced sentencing for two unrelated drug offences involving Cannabis and cocaine, receiving concurrent jail terms of seven and one month.
The judge expressed concern over Payne-Woodham’s denial of wrongdoing, highlighting the significant risk he poses to the public and his attitude towards females.
The sentencing was met with approval from the victim’s family, who were present in court to witness the proceedings.
