GEORGE "KENNY" METCALFF SENTENCED TO LIFE IN PRISON FOR MURDER IN GIRVAN
A 72-year-old man named George "Kenny" Metcalff has been handed a life sentence in connection with the tragic murder of Patricia "Patti" Henry, a 47-year-old woman from Girvan. The court has ordered that Metcalff must serve a minimum of 22 years and four months before he becomes eligible for parole, marking a significant and somber chapter in this case.Metcalff's criminal history spans nearly five decades, during which he committed numerous offenses against women, including assaults and rapes. His most recent and heinous crime involved the brutal rape and assault of Ms. Henry at her residence on November 13, 2017. Following the attack, he murdered her, although her body has yet to be recovered despite extensive search efforts. Authorities scoured locations such as Gleniffer Braes in November 2019 in an attempt to locate her remains, but these efforts proved unsuccessful. It is believed that Metcalff went to great lengths to hide her body and personal belongings in an effort to evade detection and justice.
The court proceedings revealed that Metcalff and Ms. Henry first met in 2008 when she became his neighbor in Paisley. Over the years, their relationship involved numerous phone calls and text messages, which ultimately culminated in her disappearance. Prosecutors described Ms. Henry as a vulnerable individual who was under Metcalff’s control, raising concerns about the nature of their relationship. Evidence presented in court included a conviction for assaulting her "by means to the prosecutor unknown" and causing her death through injuries sustained during the attack.
The judge overseeing the case emphasized the devastating impact of Metcalff’s actions, highlighting the profound and lasting harm inflicted upon Ms. Henry’s family. Victim impact statements from her loved ones underscored the ongoing pain and grief caused by her loss. In addition to the life sentence, Metcalff received an 18-year concurrent sentence for the rape and assault charges, which will run alongside his life imprisonment.
Throughout the proceedings, Metcalff appeared via video link from prison, maintaining his denial of all charges. The victim’s mother, Ann Henry, expressed her grief and frustration, stating, "We are very satisfied but the bottom line is we don't have her back and given the type of person he is we will never have her back." She described her daughter’s killer as a "horrible, horrible apology for a human being," emphasizing her heartbreak and the enduring pain of her loss. The case has left a lasting scar on the community of Girvan, where the tragic events continue to resonate with those who knew Ms. Henry.
