OFFENDER GEORGE JOHNSON'S BRUTAL CRIME AND LIFE SENTENCE IN RHYL
At 47 years old, George Johnson was convicted of the murder of Florence May Habesch at her home in Rhyl, Denbighshire, on February 6.The attack involved him striking the elderly woman with a heavy projector case while she was in the process of making him a cup of tea, causing severe head trauma.
Subsequent to the assault, Johnson stole £25 along with jewelry and then continued to assault her because she was staring at him and was still moving.
Johnson had a prior conviction for a murder in Wolverhampton in 1986 and had been released on license, only to be recalled due to drug issues.
The judge, Mr.
Justice Griffith-Williams, sentenced him to life imprisonment with an immediate order preventing his release, describing him as 'a very dangerous man' especially when under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The court described Johnson’s actions as cowardly, vicious, and without provocation and noted the violation of trust since Mrs.
Habesch was a generous and kind individual.
Court documents also outlined Johnson’s criminal past, including his 1986 murder, after which he spent at least 17 years in prison before release.
Following the sentencing, law enforcement officials highlighted the tragic abuse of trust involved, and members of the community expressed their sorrow over the loss of Mrs.
Habesch, remembered as a supporter of charities and a beloved member of her church.
