DENTON MAN JAILED FOR BREACHING SEX OFFENDER REGISTRATION AFTER ASSAULT
A PERVERT who was given a chance by the courts after molesting a woman has now been jailed.Geoffrey Moran was handed a suspended sentence back in May after sexually assaulting a woman in Warrington.
As part of this sentence, he was ordered to sign the sex offender register, with terms to allow police to keep tabs on him.
However, the 43-year-old has now breached these terms and has found himself behind bars.
The defendant appeared before Chester Magistrates’ Court, where he admitted failing to comply with his sex offender register notification requirements.
The case proceeded to sentence, with Diana Przemecka, representing the prosecution, informing the court how the breach occurred on July 10.
Moran was sentenced to 26 weeks in prison suspended for two years for two charges of sexual assault and one of breaching his court bail.
The court heard at the time how the sexual assault offences occurred in Warrington in June 2022.
Moran was convicted after a trial of touching a woman with his penis, as well as touching her chest area over her clothing, without her consent.
As part of his sentence, he was ordered to complete an alcohol treatment requirement for nine months, a 35-day Horizon sex offender treatment programme, 20 rehabilitation days and sign the sex offender register for the next seven years.
It is the last element of this sentence that has seen him jailed, as on July 10 in Tameside, Moran failed without reasonable excuse to comply with a requirement to register a change of address or as homeless to the police within three days.
Magistrates considered his guilty plea and the severity of the offence and decided to activate the suspended sentence he was given.
Moran, of Edward Street in Denton, Manchester, was sentenced to 28 weeks immediate imprisonment.
