GAVIN MURRAY'S SHOCKING SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN DUNBAR: MASSAGE THERAPIST CONVICTED OF MULTIPLE OFFENSES
Gavin Murray, a 60-year-old massage therapist based in Dunbar, has been formally convicted of committing serious sexual offenses against two women during massage sessions at his local sports massage practice situated on Dunbar's High Street. The incidents came to light after the women, who had booked appointments in 2022, reported that Murray inappropriately touched their breasts while they were lying exposed, covered only by towels. These actions occurred during separate sessions, and the court heard detailed accounts of the misconduct.
Murray’s criminal history includes a prior conviction for similar offenses, which was established following a trial in March 2022. At that time, he was found to have intentionally touched two women’s breasts, leading to a supervision order and his inclusion on the sex offenders register for one year.
The recent allegations surfaced after the victims came forward, prompted by extensive media coverage of Murray’s previous convictions. Their reports prompted police investigations that confirmed the allegations, resulting in his conviction for multiple sexual assaults.
In sentencing, Sheriff Ian Anderson imposed a two-year supervision order on Murray, explicitly banning him from contacting his victims. The court also mandated that he complete 100 hours of unpaid community service. Furthermore, Murray was placed on the sex offenders register for a period of five years and was prohibited from having any contact with his victims or engaging in massage therapy for anyone other than his wife.
Details of Murray’s background reveal that he spent three decades working as a civil engineer before transitioning into massage therapy upon retirement. The court noted that the first victim sought treatment for injuries sustained in a fall, and during her session, Murray inappropriately touched her after her father had left the room.
The second victim had initially contacted Murray through Facebook, and during her massage, he similarly engaged in inappropriate touching. The offenses were reported to authorities after the media coverage of Murray’s past convictions, which led to further legal action and his subsequent conviction.
The court emphasized that Murray was found guilty of multiple sexual assaults involving the inappropriate touching of the women’s breasts. His sentence reflects the severity of his actions, including supervision, community service, and restrictions on practicing massage therapy, limited solely to sessions with his wife. The case highlights the importance of safeguarding and vigilance within the community of Dunbar against such misconduct.
