DUNBAR MAN PLACED HANDS AROUND PARTNER'S THROAT IN ATTACK
A VIOLENT man who battered his partner and placed his hands around her throat in a shocking attack at a home in Dunbar has been jailed.Dean Dalziel launched the assault on the woman at the property at the town’s Fall Avenue on March 6.
Edinburgh Sheriff Court was told that the 34-year-old engaged in a course of behaviour that was abusive of his partner between June 1, 2024, and March 6 this year.
The court heard that incidents over that period included Dalziel depriving the victim of sleep by shouting and screaming at her for prolonged periods of time.
He also assaulted the woman by kicking her on the body and launching a box at her head.
The court was told the details of one particularly violent attack that took place on March 6, which ended with the police being called and Dalziel being arrested.
During the prolonged assault, Dalziel violently pulled out the woman’s hair extensions and punched her on the head before dragging her to the ground, where he then repeatedly punched her.
The attacker then pinned the woman to the ground and sat on top of her before placing his hands around her throat and compressing so much that her breathing was restricted.
The woman managed to break free but was pursued from the property by Dalziel while he was in possession of a knife.
Police officers raced to the scene following several phone calls from concerned neighbours and they eventually subdued Dalziel and took him into custody.
He appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court from custody last Tuesday, where he lodged a guilty plea to an amended charge prosecuted under Section 1 of the Domestic Abuse (Scotland) Act 2016.
Sheriff Kenneth Campbell sentenced Dalziel, c/o HMP Edinburgh, to an 18-month jail term.
