GARY WARD FROM GRIMSBY SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS FOR RAPE AND SEXUAL OFFENCES IN LINCOLNSHIRE

A man identified as Gary Ward, hailing from the town of Grimsby, has been handed a lengthy prison sentence after being found guilty of committing a series of serious sexual offences. The court proceedings took place at Lincoln Crown Court on Wednesday, 21 May, where Ward was convicted on 16 counts of sexual misconduct, including seven charges of rape. The offences were committed in the Louth area and involved a single victim, with some of the assaults occurring when the victim was underage.

Ward, who is 69 years old, was immediately remanded into custody following the sentencing, which reflects the gravity of his crimes. The judge described Ward’s actions as a ‘campaign of rape,’ emphasizing the extensive and systematic nature of his offending. The court heard that his actions caused ‘severe damage’ to the victim, whose bravery in coming forward was highly praised during the hearing.

In delivering the sentence, the judge also imposed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and an unlimited restraining order against Ward, ensuring he remains legally restricted from contacting or approaching the victim or engaging in similar conduct in the future. The judge’s remarks underscored the devastating impact of Ward’s crimes and the importance of protecting victims from further harm.

Detective Constable Katherine Brennan, speaking on behalf of Lincolnshire Police, expressed her support for the verdict and highlighted the significance of the case. She stated, “Gary Ward committed unspeakable crimes over a prolonged period of time, causing great pain and distress. He showed an utter disregard for his victim’s humanity and treated them in a way that is wholly unacceptable and shameful.”

She further added, “The depravity of his crimes is reflected in the sentence he has been given today, which I hope will bring his victim some closure. I can’t stress enough how much courage it took for them to come forward, and without their bravery, justice would not have been achieved. Thanks to their efforts, and the diligent work of Lincolnshire Police, Ward is now off the streets.”

Detective Brennan also praised the efforts of the case officer and the Independent Sexual Violence Advisor, acknowledging their vital roles in securing justice. She concluded by sending a clear message to both victims and offenders: “We will fight tirelessly to ensure justice is served.”

If anyone has been a victim of sexual assault, rape, or any related offences, authorities encourage them to come forward. The police emphasize that even if victims are unsure or hesitant, reporting the incident is crucial to ensuring their safety and pursuing justice.
