ROBERT NIXON CAUGHT WITH 250,000 CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN SHEFFIELD AND LINKED TO CLEETHORPES SEXUAL OFFENSES

In a disturbing case that spans multiple locations including Sheffield, Cleethorpes, and Grimsby, Robert Nixon, a registered sex offender, has been found in possession of an alarming quantity of indecent images of children. The police conducted a routine check at Nixon's Sheffield residence, located on Lupton Walk in Lowedges, which resulted in the discovery of over 250,000 illicit images stored on his laptop. Prosecutor Ian West revealed during the Sheffield Crown Court proceedings that authorities examined more than 4,000 of these images, highlighting the severity of the material found.

Robert Nixon, aged 33 at the time of the investigation, was already under a Sexual Offences Prevention Order due to his prior convictions. The court was informed that Nixon had a criminal history dating back to 2008, when he was sentenced to 26 months in prison for downloading and possessing indecent images, as well as sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl. His previous offenses had marked him as a serious risk, and authorities had kept him under close surveillance.

During the 2008 case, Nixon, who was then living in Lowedges, was represented by defense lawyer Andrew Swaby. Swaby emphasized Nixon’s cooperation with police and noted that he had not re-offended since his initial arrest. Despite this, the court took a stern stance, with Recorder Bernard Gateshill sentencing Nixon to an additional three years in prison and ordering him to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life.

Further back in December 2008, Nixon’s criminal record included a conviction for sexually assaulting a girl and possessing a large collection of child pornography. At that time, Nixon was working as a lifeguard at Cleethorpes Leisure Centre but was suspended immediately following his arrest in May. The charges included sexually assaulting a girl under 13 between November 2006 and November of the previous year, along with 17 counts of making indecent photographs of children and 25 counts of possessing such images.

Prosecutor James Hett at Grimsby Crown Court detailed that Nixon had assaulted the young girl on four separate occasions. Police investigations revealed that Nixon had been actively accessing and downloading indecent images of children, which compounded the seriousness of his offenses. Nixon, who was then 26 and residing at Humberston Fitties before moving to a bail hostel, admitted to the charges and expressed remorse, stating he was “repulsed” by his actions and wished to change.

Judge John Reddihough sentenced Nixon to two years and two months in prison, emphasizing the gravity of his crimes. The judge remarked on the impact of Nixon’s actions, noting that the young girl was left deeply upset and that the possession of indecent images contributed to the ongoing abuse of children worldwide. The court also ordered Nixon to register as a sex offender for ten years and imposed an indefinite ban on working with children. Additionally, Nixon was placed under a sexual offences prevention order, reinforcing the court’s commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals from further harm.
