THETFORD PAEDOPHILE GARY IZATT SENTENCED TO 18 YEARS FOR CHILD ABUSE IN NORWICH
In a case that has shocked the community of Thetford, Gary Izatt, aged 42, has been handed down a severe prison sentence after being found guilty of a series of heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of two young girls. The offences, which spanned over four years, highlight a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior that has left a lasting impact on the victims and their families.According to reports, the charges against Izatt were brought by officers from Norfolk Police’s Safeguarding Children Online Team (SCOLT) in August of the previous year. The investigation uncovered a total of 28 separate offences, which included multiple counts of rape, sexual assault by penetration, and inciting or causing children to engage in sexual activities. Additionally, Izatt was found to possess indecent images and committed acts of sexual touching, all of which contributed to the severity of his sentencing.
Izatt, who resided on Icknield Way in Thetford, pleaded guilty in June to eight counts of rape, four counts of sexual assault by penetration, three counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, four counts of possession of indecent images, and one count of sexual assault by touching. Despite his guilty pleas, the remaining charges remain on his criminal record, underscoring the full extent of his alleged misconduct.
The abuse began in June 2012 and persisted until Izatt’s arrest in August 2016. During this period, he systematically befriended his young victims, gaining their trust before subjecting them to repeated acts of sexual violence. The victims, both under the age of 13 at the time, endured numerous assaults that have had profound and lasting effects on their lives.
Today, at Norwich Crown Court, Judge Ayres delivered a stern sentence, condemning Izatt’s actions as ‘humiliating and degrading’ for the young girls involved. The judge emphasized that Izatt is a ‘dangerous individual’ who poses a significant risk of causing further harm if released back into society. As a result, Izatt was sentenced to 18 years in prison, with an extended license period of seven years, meaning he will be closely monitored even after his release. The court’s decision reflects the gravity of his crimes and the ongoing concern for the safety of children in the community of Thetford and beyond.
