A 57-year-old man has been jailed after he maliciously shared explicit sexual images of a woman across various internet sites.

Gary Ellis was already the subject of a restraining order when he committed the offences in October and December 2023.

He was handed a suspended jail sentence in 2020 for similar offences, and posted the images under assumed names on pornographic websites and a social media platform.

In addition to the images - which police said could only have been taken by Ellis - were highly personal messages.

When he was arrested by police officers in January 2024, Ellis declined to answer the questions put to him, but later pleaded guilty to two counts of disclosing private sexual photographs and films without consent and two counts of breaching a restraining order.

PC Abigail Dorricott, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "People who commit these offences may think they can hide behind on-line pseudonyms, but, as Ellis has just found out to his cost, we will track them down and we will hold them to account.

This kind of offending is deliberately designed to shame and humiliate victims, but the only shame here lies with Ellis.

His actions were a shameful violation of his victim’s privacy and have quite rightly resulted in a significant custodial sentence." She continued: "His victim, meanwhile, has shown admirable bravery and determination in coming forward, telling us about what was happening and giving compelling evidence against him.

I hope this sentence provides her with some comfort, and also serves as a warning to others about the potential consequences of posting such private images public spaces.
