CONNOR WEEKS FROM MANSFIELD WOODHOUSE SENTENCED AFTER BRUTAL DOG BEATING AND POLICE CHASES IN NOTTINGHAMSHIRE
Connor Weeks, born on July 8, 2000, and with his last known residence at Park Hall Road in Mansfield Woodhouse, has been convicted of a series of violent and reckless offenses that have shocked the local community. His criminal activities included the brutal abuse of an XL Bully dog and dangerous pursuits involving law enforcement officers across Nottinghamshire.Weeks' cruelty towards the dog was particularly disturbing. Witnesses reported seeing the animal, which was described as an XL Bully, cowering and whimpering against a fence while Weeks repeatedly struck it with a frying pan. This incident was part of a broader pattern of violent behavior that has marked Weeks' criminal record, which already includes 12 convictions for a total of 24 separate offenses.
The first known incident involving the dog occurred in March 2023 on Sherwood Street in Warsop, Mansfield. A gas engineer working nearby heard loud shouting and screaming emanating from a property behind his location. Upon investigation, he observed Weeks and heard the distressed sounds of a dog in distress. The engineer promptly contacted the police. While waiting for officers to arrive, Weeks left the scene in his van but soon returned armed with a wheel brace. Wearing a balaclava, he attacked the engineer, striking him twice on the head and causing a deep cut above his eyebrow before fleeing the scene.
The violence did not end there. On July 10, 2024, police were called to a shared YMCA accommodation in Mansfield Woodhouse after a neighbor reported hearing a dog whimpering. Upon investigation, officers found the dog cowering against a fence, visibly distressed. The neighbor witnessed Weeks repeatedly striking the animal with a frying pan, targeting its head and body. During police questioning, Weeks claimed that his actions were driven by poor mental health and that he reacted violently because the dog had defecated in the kitchen. The police confirmed that the dog was an XL Bully and subsequently removed it from the premises.
Weeks' criminal record also includes charges related to dangerous driving and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal. He pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, criminal damage, dangerous driving, and animal cruelty. Additionally, he admitted to owning a breed of dog that is banned under current regulations.
In mitigation, lawyer Bianca Brasoveanu stated that her client “saw the red mist” during the incident involving the dog and described his background as having a “sad and violent upbringing.” Despite these arguments, the court sentenced Weeks to four years and four months in prison. Furthermore, he was banned from owning any animals for a period of eight years, a ban that will expire in August 2032.
The case was handled by Nottinghamshire Police, and the sentencing underscores the severity of Weeks' actions and the ongoing efforts to combat animal cruelty and violent offending in the region.
