MAN JAILED FOR 28 YEARS AT WORCESTER CROWN COURT
A man identified as Gary Bennett has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 28 years after being found guilty of committing a series of heinous child sexual abuse offenses.The court proceedings, held at Worcester Crown Court, determined that Bennett, aged 61 and residing on Shenstone Close in Bromsgrove, will serve a minimum of 18 years behind bars before becoming eligible for parole.
His criminal activities spanned nearly a decade, beginning in 1995 and continuing until 2004.
The abuse was not confined to a single location but took place across multiple areas, including Leominster, Bridgnorth, Kidderminster, Stourbridge, Habberley, and even in London.
The geographical breadth of his offenses underscores the extensive nature of his criminal conduct.
In total, seven victims came forward, comprising six males and one female.
All of these victims were either children or teenagers at the time of the abuse, which included a range of severe offenses such as rape, attempted rape, buggery, and acts of indecency involving minors.
The gravity of these crimes highlights the profound impact Bennett’s actions have had on the lives of those affected.
The allegations against Bennett first surfaced publicly in May 2018, prompting an immediate and thorough police investigation.
The case was marked by its complexity and the extensive evidence gathered over the years.
Inspector Julie Taylor, who led the investigation, expressed her relief that justice has finally been served.
She stated, “This has been a long and complex case, and I’m pleased that Bennett’s victims have finally been able to see him face justice.” Inspector Taylor further described the crimes as “absolutely sickening,” emphasizing that the trauma inflicted on the victims will likely have lasting effects.
She acknowledged the courage it took for the victims to come forward and commend their resilience throughout the legal process.
Despite numerous delays and procedural hurdles, the victims remained patient, dignified, and resolute in their pursuit of justice.
In her closing remarks, Inspector Taylor urged anyone who has experienced sexual assault, whether as a child or an adult, recent or historical, to contact the authorities.
She assured the public that all reports would be taken seriously and that victims would be listened to with compassion and respect.
