MAN HEADBUTTS AND STRANGLES MOTHER OF HIS KIDS
A fisherman assaulted the mother of his children by headbutting and strangling her after losing control when she woke him up to go to work.Gareth Richard Stanley attacked his former partner at her home in Heamoor, Penzance, in August and again in October.
During these incidents, their children were present and witnessed the violence.
At a hearing at Truro Crown Court on Friday (March 27), it was revealed that the first assault in August involved Stanley pushing his ex-partner and grabbing her by the neck, culminating in a headbutt to her face during a prolonged attack in her kitchen.
After she called the police, her daughter who saw the assault prompted her to leave, leading to Stanley’s arrest and bail.
Despite being out on bail, Stanley committed a second act of violence two months later at the same address.
On that occasion, the 40-year-old, formerly residing on Tolver Road, Penzance, once again seized her by the neck and pushed her.
The assaults had a profound and harmful impact on the woman, who should have felt secure and able to trust her partner.
Since October, Stanley has been in custody at HMP Exeter.
He faced charges of causing actual bodily harm and battery, to which he pleaded guilty.
The court sentenced him to 14 months imprisonment, suspended for two years, along with a 15-day rehabilitation requirement, 20 days of alcohol monitoring, and a restraining order preventing him from contacting his ex-partner unless through a solicitor for access to their children, lasting ten years.
