FREDERICK YATES FROM HYDE JAILED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF CHILDREN IN HYDE AND ST. STEPHENS CHURCH
In a case that has shocked the community of Hyde, Frederick Yates, a 51-year-old resident of Rutland Street, was convicted and sentenced for a series of disturbing sexual offences committed against young girls over a span of more than two decades. The crimes, which took place between 1979 and 1999, involved multiple victims and were brought to light during a court hearing at Minshull Crown Court.Yates, who was unemployed at the time, was known locally for running a Citizen Band (CB) radio club aimed at children under the age of 14. The club was based at St Stephens Church in Hyde, a location that was supposed to be a safe environment for young people but unfortunately became the setting for his heinous acts.
The court proceedings revealed that all the offences committed by Yates involved female children who were under 13 years old. The nature of the charges included indecency and other sexual misconduct, which he carried out over a period of 12 years, causing significant distress to the victims and their families.
On the 16th of May, 2006, Yates was sentenced to a term of 42 months in prison. In addition to his imprisonment, he was placed on the sex offenders register, a legal requirement aimed at monitoring individuals convicted of sexual crimes. Furthermore, Yates was disqualified from working with children for the rest of his life, a measure intended to prevent any future harm to vulnerable minors.
The case has raised concerns about safeguarding children within community organizations and highlights the importance of vigilance in environments where children are present. The community of Hyde and the authorities continue to emphasize the need for protective measures to ensure such incidents do not recur in the future.
