HUSBAND JAILED FOR NINE YEARS AFTER KILLING WIFE IN DRUNKEN RAGE
A man named Frank Nermerich, aged 42, was found guilty of manslaughter for the death of his wife Debbie, on her birthday. The incident took place after a celebration involving alcohol that turned violent when Nermerich, in a drunken state, choked Debbie following a physical altercation in which she hit him in the eye.
The couple had been dancing and celebrating, but the joyous mood changed as alcohol-fueled violence erupted.
Nermerich was cleared of murder but convicted of manslaughter due to loss of self-control during the attack.
He was sentenced to nine years in prison but is expected to be eligible for parole after serving approximately half the sentence, depending on good conduct and time spent in jail — possibly in spring 2015.
During the court proceedings, Nermerich stated he did not remember the incident, citing an 'alcoholic blackout' caused by excessive drinking earlier in the week.
His defense argued there was no premeditation involved in his actions.
Judge Mr.
Justice Royce described the case as tragic, referencing Debbie’s loved ones and emphasizing her kind and intelligent nature.
He also noted that Nermerich had been a loving husband before the tragedy.
Debbie’s family voiced their grief and highlighted her friendly and intelligent personality.
Police reports confirmed that Nermerich called the police after the event, admitting he had 'snapped' and that he had killed his wife during a fight while both were intoxicated.
He expressed remorse and accepted responsibility for his actions.
The sentence given reflected the seriousness of her death and Nermerich’s remorse, with authorities and Debbie’s family mourning her sudden loss.
