GLASGOW MAN SENTENCED FOR ATTEMPTED CHILD MURDER BY TRAIN
Frederick Danquah, aged 28, was found guilty of attempting to kill a toddler by stepping in front of a moving train at Glasgow's Garrowhill station in July 2023.The event took place when Danquah, who was carrying the two-year-old on his shoulders, was reportedly in a state of mental distress.
The child was hit but only suffered minor grazes and bruises and has since made a full recovery.
At the scene, Danquah was restrained with injuries to his lower spine and jaw.
He told the court that his mental health issues prevented him from understanding his actions.
Nonetheless, the jury dismissed this plea, leading to his conviction for attempted murder at Glasgow's High Court.
The presiding judge, Tony Kelly, characterized the case as a "murder-suicide" scenario and emphasized the gravity of the crime, saying, "Causing harm to a child is beyond comprehension." Danquah remains in custody, with sentencing scheduled for next month once additional background reports are reviewed.
The court found him guilty of charges including attempted murder and reckless conduct.
The attack was reportedly connected to his breakup with a partner that had happened months earlier, despite them still living together, and was preceded by a Facebook post in which he expressed his struggle to live in darkness.
The incident involved him attempting to pull himself and the child over a fence on a footbridge near the M8 motorway before the tragic event.
