REPEAT OFFENDER RETURNED TO JAIL AFTER SAMURAI SWORD ATTACK
A Clydebank man named Frederick Boyd, aged 54, who previously attacked his partner with a samurai sword in Knightswood, has been returned to jail.Boyd was initially sentenced in 2015 at the High Court in Glasgow to four years and 11 months after admitting to an assault where he stabbed a woman because he believed she was having an affair with his brother.
Recently, Boyd failed to return to HMP Castle Huntly after a period of home leave and was reported missing on April 11.
He was staying at a hostel in Glasgow and had a curfew from 11 pm to 7 am.
Boyd claimed he missed a bus and panicked, deciding to flee back to his family, which he recognized as foolish.
He also admitted to sleeping rough in Dalmuir Park and beneath the Erskine Bridge.
Boyd, who is described as an inmate at HMP Glenochil, was sentenced to an additional eight months for failing to return to his prison and attempting to defeat the ends of justice.
The sheriff stated, 'You are no stranger to the prison system and court and yet you took the somewhat silly decision to remain at liberty when you could have gone back to open prison.'
