EDINBURGH MAN GETS LIFE FOR WIFE-KILLING WEEKS AFTER BREAKUP
Frazer Neil, aged 25, was convicted of the murder of his former fiancée, Hannah Dorans.Police described him as a "dangerous and manipulative" individual.
Neil followed his 21-year-old ex to her Edinburgh apartment, where they had previously shared a home.
The assault happened less than two weeks after Hannah ended their relationship, with Neil unable to accept her relationship with another person.
It is reported that Neil lured Hannah to his home on Hutchison Road by threatening to destroy insurance documents she needed.
Once there, he attacked her, strangled her with a dressing gown cord, and murdered her.
After the crime, Neil called emergency services and confessed, claiming he had forgotten about the incident.
The High Court in Glasgow sentenced him to life imprisonment with a minimum jail term of 19 years, starting from January of that year.
Neil will be subject to life on license, with the possibility of recall.
Authorities also revealed that Neil caused distress to Hannah’s parents, Keith and Moira Dorans, by messaging them on social media while on bail in March 2017.
The police conveyed their condolences and stressed the tragic impact on the family, noting, “The life of our wonderful daughter was brutally taken from her and our lives are forever changed.” Hannah’s parents described her as a “beautiful person,” and the verdict was seen as justice served.
The conviction and sentence give the family a measure of closure and reflect the court’s acknowledgment of Neil’s violent conduct in this tragic case.
