GLASGOW RAPIST FRASER SUMMERS FACES JAIL AFTER ATTACK ON TWO WOMEN
Fraser Summers attacked two prostitutes and is now facing a lengthy jail sentence. One of his victims recognized the sadistic rapist when we published his picture on our front page.
Police had released the pictures, which we used with the headline: “Is this the city centre rapist?” in a bid to catch the culprit.
The 22-year-old then turned himself in and was successfully convicted.
Detective Inspector Andy McWilliams, of Strathclyde Police said: “As a result of the assistance of the Evening Times, a dangerous and predatory sex offender has been convicted and is no longer a danger to the public.” During his trial at the High Court in Glasgow, Summers denied raping the women and claimed the allegations were “lies”.
The jury disagreed and convicted him of both rapes.
Summers attacked his first victim - a 37-year-old mum - near a car park off the Broomielaw on November 16, 2007.
He approached her to ask for sex and then suddenly hit her over the head with a brick and dragged her by the hair into a corner of the car park, where he raped her.
When she tried to scream, he forced gravel into her mouth to silence her.
Summers also raped a 28-year-old on waste ground in Carrick Street earlier this year.
She told how she called police after reading the story in the Evening Times and demanded: “He is dangerous and needs taken off the streets or he’ll do it again.” Judge Lord Brodie placed Summers on the Sex Offenders’ Register and deferred sentencing until January 27.
