2003: POSSESSIVE PRISONER JAILED FOR ATTACKING UNFAITHFUL GIRLFRIEND
A jealous partner assaulted his girlfriend following her confession of infidelity while he was incarcerated, Worcester Crown Court was informed.Frank Cole, 36, of Ploughmans Rise, Westlands, Droitwich, received a sentence of two and a half years after admitting to attacking Joanne Yaxley and causing her actual bodily harm.
The prosecution, led by Tariq Shakoor, explained that Cole lost his temper, grabbing her around the neck, holding her down on a bed, and stabbing a cushion near her head with a knife.
He also pressed the blade against her lips and at one point attempted to induce her to stab him, even holding the knife to his own stomach.
Judge Ian Morris described Cole as a "jealous and possessive man" whose conduct caused terror in his victim.
It was also revealed that Cole had previously assaulted Miss Yaxley twice; he had been sentenced to four months in jail in July last year for a separate offence.
Despite the violence, she chose to forgive him and moved back into his home, seeking a fresh start.
However, in October, after she admitted having an affair with an ex-partner, Cole reacted violently, leading to the attack that left her feeling terrified.
The defendant’s solicitor, Timothy Green, indicated the assault was unplanned and prompted by her revelation.
Cole acknowledged that his conduct was inappropriate and explained that he found it difficult to control his emotions.
