GLASGOW MAN JAILED FOR MURDER OF WIFE WITH DUMBBELL
A 53-year-old man named Francis Santhio was convicted of the murder of his estranged wife, Amelet Francis, at her home in Toryglen, Glasgow.The incident occurred in September when Santhio used a dumbbell to assault his wife.
Her eldest son discovered her battered body at the scene, with police sources revealing she was covered in blood and had sustained a severe head injury.
Santhio admitted to the crime, alleging that his actions were prompted by her abusive treatment, which included making him feel like a slave and keeping his passport and money.
With a history of domestic abuse convictions, Santhio tearfully admitted during the trial to becoming angry and striking his wife with a weight.
The judge, Lord Turnbull, sentenced him to life imprisonment with a minimum of 13 years and four months before parole could be considered.
The court highlighted his lack of remorse and his long history of violent conduct, which included previous community orders and incarcerations.
Evidence during the trial showed that his final act involved repeated blows to his wife’s head using a metal bar, emphasizing the brutality of the assault.
