WREXHAM MAN JAILED FOR CONTROLLING AND ABUSIVE EX-PARTNER
A man from Wrexham, described as 'calculated and cunning,' who was accused of controlling and abusing his former partner, has received a custodial sentence.Fletcher Wright, aged 22 and living on Benjamin Road, appeared before Mold Crown Court on Wednesday, November 6, after pleading guilty to charges including controlling behaviour, intentional strangulation, and witness intimidation.
The offences took place between January and April earlier this year, starting with what appeared to be a normal relationship with Lydia Ramm that later turned violent.
Prosecutors stated that Wright resorted to physical violence such as pinching, kicking, grabbing her by the throat, pulling her hair, and threatening to kill her and her dog.
He also used psychological tactics to isolate her from friends and family and refused to accept the end of their relationship, continuing to make contact despite bail conditions that prohibited such actions.
His harassment worsened when he appeared at a pub where Ramm was present, shouting and screaming at her.
He stayed with her daily out of fear and pressured her to drop charges related to earlier incidents.
Wright accessed her phone without permission, deleting contacts of male friends, and reacted angrily and maniacially.
His physical assaults included dragging her into another room, pinning her by the neck, slapping her, and kneeing her, which left visible bruising.
He accused her of flirting, claimed to love her dog more than her, and vented his frustrations on her pet.
His attacks became a daily routine, with him openly admitting, ‘I just love hitting you.’ Ramm’s statement described how he robbed her of her happiness and made her suffer emotionally, leaving her fearful and emotionally broken.
She described him as 'calculated and cunning.' A psychological report suggested he might have neurological issues, including severe learning difficulties, which could partly explain his behavior.
The court sentenced Wright to three years in prison and imposed a restraining order preventing him from contacting Ms Ramm or entering her street or workplace.
Detective Constable Jessica Rowley commented on the case, emphasizing the dangerous pattern of coercion and violence and the ongoing threat he poses to women.
The case highlights the importance of recognizing domestic abuse and providing support to victims.
