SCOTTISH POP STAR FINLEY QUAYE PLEADS GUILTY TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND CAUSES PROPERTY DAMAGE
Troubled Scots pop star Finley Quaye has been ordered to return to court for sentencing over a domestic offence.The Edinburgh-born singer appeared at the city’s sheriff court on Monday after pleading guilty last month.However, sentencing was delayed until next month as reports in the case had not yet been prepared.Quaye, aged 49, admitted causing damage to property during a domestic disturbance at his former partner’s home in the Newington area of Edinburgh.
He forcibly entered and caused disruption inside her home, throwing chairs and flowers, smashing glasses, and acting aggressively.
Quaye had previously admitted to having 14 previous convictions related to alcohol, including a 2012 incident where he was found guilty of aggravated assault.During the incident, Quaye shouted and behaved threateningly towards the woman, forcing open her flat door and smashing items inside.
Following his arrest on July 15, he spent the weekend in police custody.
Quaye has a history of convictions, including a northern breach of the peace, and was declared bankrupt later in the same year, with a tax debt of £383,000.
He was also convicted of assault in 2016 after headbutting a terminally ill friend over a trivial argument related to Game of Thrones.He was sentenced to 225 hours of unpaid work for his latest offences, which involved the destruction of property and threatening behaviour.
The court noted his history of convictions, including a string of alcohol-related issues and previous violent acts, which resulted in a UK court order barring him from certain behaviours.
The case highlights Quaye’s troubled history, once being a prominent figure in British music, with his 1998 Brit Award for best male solo artist and double platinum album Maverick a Strike.
Despite this success, he has accumulated numerous convictions over the years, including aggressive behaviour and assault, with his legal troubles continuing into recent years.
