PERTH WOMAN FINED FOR SECTARIAN ABUSE AT CHILD
A social work employee named Fay Smith, aged 50 and residing on Cairns Crescent in Perth, has been fined £350 after she was found guilty of shouting sectarian abuse at a child. The incident occurred on July 13 when Smith was at her home and under the influence of alcohol.
During a domestic altercation, she threw a plate at her partner and then proceeded to behave in a threatening and abusive manner.
Witnesses, including a woman and her children, observed Smith outside her house around 11:30 am, where she was shouting and swearing at her partner.
The depute fiscal noted that Smith used sectarian language directed at one of the children, causing fear and alarm among those present.
Smith admitted to throwing the plate, shouting, and swearing, which resulted in the court's decision.
Defence solicitor Billy Somerville explained Smith's behavior was aggravated by financial worries due to her being on a zero-hours contract and claimed the incident was a spill-over from her perception that the woman's family was interfering, which was not the case.
Smith expressed regret for her actions and requested to resolve the matter quickly.
The sheriff, Valerie Johnston, imposed a fine of £350.
