KUWAITI MAN DETAINED INDEFINITELY FOR KILLING DAUGHTER IN BOURNEMOUTH
A 59-year-old man from Kuwait, Faleh Ghazi Albasman, was implicated in the killing of his 24-year-old daughter Mashael Albasman, who was a student in Bournemouth. The tragedy took place on 30 March when she was discovered dead in her apartment with 13 stab wounds.
The father claimed that the murder was an 'honour killing,' asserting that she had disrespected him by speaking on her mobile phone.
Psychological assessments indicated that he suffered from paranoid psychosis, and he pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the basis of diminished responsibility.
The case was heard at Winchester Crown Court, where he was ordered to be detained in a hospital, and his detention will continue indefinitely under the Mental Health Act until he is considered safe for release.
The court noted that his violent act was triggered by a sudden outburst, linked to a brain injury he had incurred in the 1970s, which resulted in a one-month coma and an abnormality in mental function.
The proceedings revealed that following his attack on his daughter, he also tried to harm himself, telling police that he had killed her in the name of 'honour.' The court examined his mental health history and the familial tensions that contributed to the incident.
