EDINBURGH MAN CONVICTED OF RAPE AT LEITH LINKS
A man named Faizan Ali has been convicted of raping a woman in an Edinburgh park.The incident occurred in Leith Links on 13 November 2014.
Ali, who was 24 years old at the time of conviction and was a prisoner at HMP Edinburgh, was found guilty by a jury after a three-day trial held at the High Court in Edinburgh.
The woman, a sex worker, testified that Ali's actions left her feeling 'violated and scared.' The court has deferred sentencing, but Ali is expected to be placed on the Sex Offenders Register.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on 14 July.
Defense solicitor advocate Brian Gilfedder stated that he would address the court at the sentencing hearing, choosing to keep his comments until then.
