BIRMINGHAM RAPIST SENTENCED TO LIFE FOR TERRORIZING PROSTITUTES
A SERIAL rapist who carried out a reign of terror against prostitutes in a Birmingham suburb was sentenced to life imprisonment.Faisal Khan, aged 25, from Swanage Road, Small Heath, was convicted following a nine-day trial last year on six counts of rape, one count of attempted rape, one of sexual assault, and robbery.
The Birmingham Crown Court heard that Khan preyed on vulnerable victims over a four-month period, instilling fear and terrorizing them.
The judge described Khan's actions as a campaign of violent sexual offenses driven by a deep-seated hatred and contempt for prostitutes.
She noted that his reign of terror persisted because victims were reluctant to come forward.
The victims were all slight women working alone at night, targeted in places where they could be isolated.
Khan was known to attack on the basis that women were desperate for business to feed their drug habits, and he often grabbed the victims by the throat and squeezed hard, sometimes causing them to lose consciousness.
In some cases, he threatened victims with a knife or a house brick.
The judge emphasized that all victims feared for their lives during the assaults, which only ended after Khan was sexually satisfied.
Defense counsel Kevin Grego argued that Khan suffered from a mental illness which would have influenced his actions.
The sentence reflects his dangerous conduct over the period.
