INVERNESS DOMESTIC ABUSER AVOIDS JAIL AFTER CHOKING PARTNER
A man identified as Fabian Mattis, aged 20, has been involved in domestic abuse incidents but has not received a custodial sentence.According to Inverness Sheriff Court reports, Mattis assaulted his partner on multiple occasions.
The court heard he suspected her of infidelity, leading to a series of violent acts.
During a particularly severe incident in July of last year, Mattis put his hands around his partner’s neck and squeezed, obstructing her breathing.
On another occasion, he grabbed her by the arm and forcibly threw her onto a coffee table.
The woman left the shared residence after these incidents but returned out of concern.
The relationship ended in September, but Mattis refused to accept this, resulting in further violence when she again asserted they were finished.
Court proceedings revealed that these acts constituted serious domestic abuse, with Sheriff Sara Matheson describing the assault as effectively a form of strangulation.
As a result, Mattis was sentenced to a community payback order that requires 225 hours of unpaid work and participation in a program aimed at addressing his propensity for domestic offending.
Furthermore, he was issued a non-harassment order lasting for 20 months to prevent him from approaching or contacting the victim.
His solicitor indicated he is a first-time offender and acknowledges that his conduct was unacceptable, with the court emphasizing the concern given his young age.
