MAN JAILED FOR STABBING EX-WIFE
A NEWPORT man was jailed for two years for stabbing his ex-wife in the head.Eric Marasco, aged 34, of Broadmead Park, pleaded guilty to unlawfully wounding Sharon Newman with an eight inch long serrated knife.
Newport crown court heard how Miss Newman had returned home from work on January 6, this year, to find the defendant sitting in a chair in her darkened living room with a litre of cider and a can of beer.
When she asked what he was doing there he became confrontational, so she went outside to call the police.
But when she returned to get her key from the front door he pulled her inside by the hood of her coat.
It was then that she felt an excruciating pain to the right side of her head, where he had stabbed her, and saw him holding the knife.
A struggle followed and she also received a cut to one of her fingers.
The defendant received a wound in his arm during the incident.
Andrew Jones, defending, said there was a long history between the couple who had been married five years and in an "on off" relationship for 17 years.
Mr Jones said: "It seems that up until this happened it was a case of not being able to live with each other, but not being able to live without each other." Sentencing Marasco, Judge Tom Crowther blamed the defendant's "slide into assaults" on his psychiatric background and overindulgence in alcohol.
