PERTH SOCIAL WORKER FINED FOR DRUNKEN CARE OF CHILD
A social worker named Elizabeth Sinclair has been fined for being intoxicated while responsible for a young child. The incident occurred on August 6 in Perth, where Sinclair was seen stumbling, slurring her words, and falling in the street while pushing a child's buggy.
Several members of the public helped her to upright the buggy and assist the child, who was unharmed but extremely upset.
Sinclair continued walking towards Glasgow Road despite the accident, leading witnesses to contact the police.
Officers traced her to Perth swimming pool and took her to police headquarters.
Sinclair, aged 46 and with over 20 years of experience, admitted she was drunk in charge of a one-year-old child.
Her defence cited personal struggles, including her mother's dementia, the death of her brother, and her dog's passing, as reasons for her alcohol use.
Although she sought help and was assessed as not dependency-prone, she acknowledged overusing alcohol during stressful times.
The court showed some sympathy but condemned her actions, emphasizing the dangers of alcohol abuse when caring for children.
Sinclair was fined £260 for her misconduct.
