SCOTTISH INMATE WHO MURDERED SON AND DIED IN PRISON
DECEASED A man who murdered his teenage son after knifing him through the chest over two decades ago has died in jail.Edward Simpson had been serving a sentence at HMP Castle Huntly near Perth where he was found dead on Friday, March 18.
The 55-year-old was convicted of the brutal killing of his 18-year-old son, also named Edward, in November 2001.
During the trial, Simpson revealed no remorse, and jurors heard him laugh and say: "Ha ha ha.
Was that sore, you wee p****?
I hope it was sore" after stabbing his son.
The incident unfolded outside their Clydebank home after a dispute following a fight where the son fled and a violent argument erupted.
Simpson was sentenced to at least 10 years behind bars at Glasgow High Court in 2002.
Despite his conviction and sentence, Simpson died of natural causes, with a Fatal Accident Inquiry set to establish the circumstances around his death.
The Scottish Prison Service confirmed his death and advised police and the Procurator Fiscal.
Simpson’s violent act had a profound impact, with his son’s girlfriend, brother, and sister witnessing the incident, including his brother Sean, who was just 11, trying to stop the bleeding.
He was described as remorseless during his sentencing, and reports indicate he died of natural causes while still incarcerated.
An inquiry will be carried out to clarify the details of his death, and the case highlights the tragic consequences of domestic violence and lethal violence within families.
