GLASGOW MAN ADMITS BRUTAL RAPE DURING MILLENNIUM CELEBRATIONS
Edward McVeigh, 22, of Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, admitted assaulting and raping a student on top of the Collins Building in Richmond Street during the early hours of January 1, 2000.The victim, a virgin girl, was taken up to a rooftop on a Strathclyde University building, where she was punched so severely that her face was nearly unrecognizable.
A casualty registrar at Glasgow's Royal Infirmary reported never having seen such terrible bruising.
McVeigh and his friends, along with the victim and her friends, had traveled separately into Glasgow for the millennium celebrations in George Square.
The victim was heard to say that she did not want to sleep with McVeigh.
Forensic evidence, including DNA, blood on his socks, and fingerprint and palm print on a window, linked him to the assault.
He was arrested after police studied security videos showing him emerging from the area.
The case was called for social inquiry reports and continued until June 23, 2000.
