EDWARD FELVUS SENTENCED FOR CHILD ABUSE IN WISHAW AND NEWMAINS
In a case that has shocked the community of Wishaw and surrounding areas, Edward Felvus, aged 68, was sentenced to five years and three months in prison after admitting to a series of heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of minors.The offences took place over a span of several years, primarily in Wishaw, North Lanarkshire, and included disturbing acts committed at various residences in the area.
Felvus's criminal actions came to light during a court hearing at the High Court in Edinburgh, where he pleaded guilty to multiple charges.
The court was informed that between 1971 and 1974, Felvus assaulted two young girls, both of whom are protected by legal restrictions that prevent their identities from being disclosed.
The first victim, an eight-year-old girl, was subjected to an attempted rape at Felvus's home in Craigneuk, Wishaw, sometime between May 1971 and May 1972.
The second girl, aged 12 at the time, was involved in an unlawful sexual encounter with Felvus at Newmains, Wishaw, during an incident that occurred between April 1972 and April 1974.
In addition to these crimes, Felvus admitted to sexually abusing a young boy, also eight years old, between May 1971 and May 1973.
His criminal conduct extended further to include the abuse of another eight-year-old girl on multiple occasions from January 1979 through April 1981.
These acts, which spanned over a decade, reveal a pattern of predatory behavior that has deeply disturbed the community and law enforcement authorities alike.
During the sentencing, Lady Smith, the presiding judge at the High Court in Edinburgh, emphasized the gravity of Felvus's actions.
She stated that children’s innocence is a precious aspect of their lives that must be fiercely protected.
Addressing Felvus directly, she condemned his conduct as “abhorrent,” describing it as “sordid” and causing “revulsion” in anyone with even a shred of decency.
The judge’s words underscored the severity of the crimes and the importance of safeguarding vulnerable children from such predatory behavior.
