77-YEAR-OLD ISLE OF WIGHT MAN JAILED FOR SEXUALLY ABUSING WOMAN DURING SEIZURE

A woman fought back tears as she recounted to the court how her life was devastated by the actions of 77-year-old Edward Addison. Court reports detail that Addison appeared at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on December 20 for sentencing after admitting to a series of serious offences. The court heard that on May 10, Addison sexually assaulted a woman after she collapsed during a seizure. Instead of helping her, Addison, who was known to the victim, took advantage of her vulnerable state by placing his hand on her crotch and photographing her private parts. This incident was part of a larger pattern of misconduct, as Addison also pleaded guilty to three charges of making indecent images of children, which were discovered on his devices between February 2 and April 14. He also breached a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO). Authorities found 33 images, three of which were classified as the most serious. When police questioned Addison, he initially refused to give his device PINs but later complied, allowing officers to find illicit images and videos of children, as well as photographs and footage of the victim. The victim expressed how Addison’s crimes left her with night terrors, anxiety, and physical barricades around her home. She said, 'Addison stole a piece of me that day. He stole my identity and took advantage of me while I was in a vulnerable state.' Despite Addison's remorse expressed to his legal team, the judge described his conduct as disgraceful, astonishing, and a severe breach of trust. The court sentenced him to 44 months of imprisonment, along with a five-year restraining order and a new ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
