INVERNESS PORN ADDICT SENTENCED FOR CHILD ABUSE IMAGES
A 22-year-old pornography addict was apprehended with numerous images of rape and child sexual abuse after seeking increasingly extreme material to achieve a greater 'hit.' Edson Pacheco was found to have downloaded 254 still images alongside 28 videos depicting children and was involved in distribution, sharing two of these images with another internet user. The National Child Abuse Investigation Unit tipped off local authorities, resulting in a search on April 12, 2021, at a property in Old Mill Lane where indecent material was discovered on his mobile device.
The device also contained scenes of rape, with most videos and 76 still images classified as Category A, indicating the most obscene content.
Pacheco, residing on Telford Street, Inverness, admitted possessing the illegal content, distributing some items, and possessing an extreme image.
Defense advocate Neil Wilson described Pacheco’s addiction as ‘like a drug’ and stated that his client was ‘seeking more extreme pornography,’ asserting that it was 'not sexual attraction.' The court proceedings deferred sentencing for a background report, during which Pacheco was placed on the Sex Offenders Register.
Wilson also noted that Pacheco had shown remorse and engaged with the 'Stop It Now' program immediately after confessing, pointing out his status as a first-time offender who has taken positive corrective steps.
Sheriff Margaret Neilson sentenced Pacheco to 200 hours of unpaid community work, placed him under social work supervision for 18 months, and mandated his registration on the sex offenders list for the same timeframe.
